Astrologers from the royal court

Three Magi

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register.

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

The Most significant EVENT

Tuesday's quotes:

"Let us remember that the Christmas heart is a giving heart, a wide open heart that thinks of others first. The birth of the baby Jesus stands as the most significant event in all history, because it has meant the pouring into a sick world of the healing medicine of love which has transformed all manner of hearts for almost two thousand years... Underneath all the bulging bundles is this beating Christmas heart." --
George Matthew Adams

ALL ABOUT WORSHIP

holy experience

I love strolling by Ann Voskamp's site! I alway's leave with a different, feeling, outlook, idea, thought, scripture or life impression. Just hearing the music settles my soul.

There are so many things I love about the Christmas season, and I love how she helps remind us to stretch ourselves. Are you too thinking about making your life all about worship and counting 1000 gifts?  My list is endless....
Reflections of birth, newness, hope, restoration...

I coninue in my THANKSGIVING!

An Ordinary Jewish Girl

Wednesday's Word

And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy–the Son of God."

The Nativity Story
A young girl, who was probably only about 12 or 13 years old when an angel came to her. Recently engaged to a carpenter. She was an ordinary Jewish girl, looking forward to marriage. Suddenly her life would forever be changed.

Was she fearful and troubled?  She must have thought that her carpenter would divorce her, or worse yet, he might even have her put to death by stoning.
If nothing else, she knew she would be disgraced as an unwed mother.
She could not possibly have comprehended how she would conceive the Savior, yet
she responded to God
with belief
and obedience.

Her life held great honor. Her calling demanded great suffering as well. Just as there is pain in childbirth and motherhood, there was much pain in the privilege of being the mother of the Messiah.

Can we willing accept God's plan? Can we even rejoice in God's plan, like Mary did, when we know that it will cost us dearly?

Delights that hold me rapt

holy experience

I'm thanking you, God, from a full heart, I'm writing the book on your wonders. I'm whistling, laughing, and jumping for joy; I'm singing your song, High God.

Contemplative, deliberate, intentional and sometimes very unintentional... GIVING THANKS
I sit quietly, candles flickering, introspective to all the delights that hold me rapt. Christmas, birth, death...sacrifice!
Absorbed in Him. The fleeting life He has blessed to me.
His Spirit's cloak nourishes my parched marrow. He revives me onward without limit.

Reflection

Wednesday's Word

"I have come as a light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me would not remain in darkness"
~John 12:46~

Oh I how love this time of year.

This Scripture says it all as WE reflect on why Jesus came to us as a baby in a manger oh so many years ago. His Truth is the foundation for everything that is, or will ever be. Amen!
