Ordinary

Five Minute Friday: Ordinary

I've decided to a departure from my Funny Friday for a time. I bumped into this genius-osity over at The Gypsy Mama.  Oh I will probably be back because I love THE FUNNY and RANDOM. But in this moment I am drawn to this idea of taking only 5 minutes and "Finger painting" with whatever words fall onto the keyboards.

"So, here’s the skinny: I keep thinking about writing and how often our perfectionism gets in the way of our words. And so a while back I figured, why not take 5 minutes and see what comes out: not a perfect post, not a profound post, just five minutes of focused writing.
No extreme editing; no worrying about perfect grammar, font, or punctuation. Just painting with words. Finger-painting even.
For only five minutes.
I love that so many of you loved that idea too. So we gather here every Friday to compare our five minute masterpieces, in all their messy beauty. We just write, without worrying if it’s just right or not."

Go:

1. of no special quality or interest; commonplace; unexceptional: One novel is brilliant, the other is decidedly ordinary; an ordinary person.
2. plain or undistinguished: ordinary clothes.
3. somewhat inferior or below average; mediocre.
4. customary; usual; normal: We plan to do the ordinary things this weekend.

I have oft though myself too ordinary for God to use. Oh Father why do I box you up?

Truth:  He can and does use the gifts of all of His people. The Lord knows my heart and He will bring people into my life that He wants me to help, to share with or to comfort.

My prayer if eyes rest on this page other than mine:
Don't let the enemy deceive you into thinking that you do not have the knowledge, the education or the experience to do the work that He has called you to do. And do not let others try to intimidate you into thinking that you cannot or should not be doing it. Child of God, you are not ordinary, you are extraordinary. God knows that and that is why He wants to use you.

  2. This is so easy to forget when The Inner 'You Stink!' is screaming..."The Lord knows my heart and He will bring people into my life that He wants me to help, to share with or to comfort."

Stopping by from The Gypsy Mama...

  3. "Oh Father why do I box you up?"
AMEN! I have the same doubts about myself, which are rooted in doubts about Him, even though I don't "like" to think of it that way. Thank you for the reminder that He is powerful for the both of us.

  4. Oh, I love how you put the dictionary definition in your post. That makes it even, oh-so-much-more REAL why/how we think of ourselves....and yet...BUT GOD!

Thank you for your encouragement & challenge for us all....esp ME!
